Another great event in the super venue of Ferriby Village Hall.
Featuring Dave Abbott, Armageddon Fresh and TripManhattan
"TripManhattan et al picked a difficult night to play this large venue at Ferriby Village Hall, competing with half term holidays, the school prom and, most tellingly, the Wembley play off final for local side, Hull City, (scratch 53 thousand potential gig goers then).
So the turn out was less than might be hoped but the gig was none the less impressive for all that. With the large stage to work on the acts had room to perform, with lighting to match, and perform they did.
Dave Abbott opened the evening with a series of solo acoustic songs, including the stand out 'Vicky's Song'.
Armageddon Fresh picked up the pace with a compelling series of rock covers delivered with energy and enthusiasm, their lead singer, Hannah, proving again that girls know how to rock. They finished in style with a wonderful Ukulele number penned by drummer Chris Dalby.
Then the lights went down, the beat started, the audience gathered in anticipation as Andy Smith's drums were picked out in hazy green light, sticks catching the light; enter stage right, Dave Marritt, wringing dirty chords from his SG, yellow cross light sparkling on chrome; augment this with the second guitar of Simon Hudson and Nigel Downes underpinning bass; built to a climax as the final note hangs from the Marshall stack; whoop it up as the band launch full on into Alright now, the first of a handful of covers set into as high energy set as you could expect.
For a full hour they played, picked out in spotlights and crosslights, with sweeping rock originals, high energy indie and a few more melancholy and contemplative songs from their extensive set list. If they were tired they barely showed it, packing a punch into a shorter second set that left the danced out audience gasping for more. They were rewarded witha punchy encore built around blues favourite Johhny B Good. The pictures tell much of the story...
A great night, to the enabling tune of Wold Top Ale and a lively audience that were clearly having as much fun as the bands."
